About a month ago, Michael & I sat down and ironed out some serious details about the first half of our trip. It felt really good and "official" to make and pay for actual reservations and caused me to realize that this is REALLY happening. At that point, I became a little bit schizophrenic.....
WHEEEE! [translation: "Can't wait!"]
AAGH! [translation: "What are we thinking?!"]
SQUEE! [translation: "This is going to be awesome!"]
OH NO! [translation: "we've lost our ever lovin' minds."]
Schizophrenic feelings aside, we were feeling pretty awesome having reservations and plans made for 10 out of 17 days of our trip.
THEN....radio silence. Nothing. Baseball tournaments and field trips and end of school hysteria set in and we lost our L'WOW mojo and just did nothing, kind of pretending like the 2nd half of our trip wasn't going to happen.
Denial: not just a river in Egypt....
Cue today: There's no time like the present, so when Michael headed upstairs to read this afternoon, I quickly followed right behind with the laptop and we had a little planning session to make the final reservations for our trip.
Days 11-18 will have us in the San Francisco area, Yosemite, and then the long journey home. We are planning to stop at least one night on the way home--probably Albuquerque, NM for the first stop. That is about 15 hours from Yosemite.
SO, today, we made reservations for an Alcatraz tour and finalized our camping site reservations for the San Francisco portion of our trip.
After we spend 3 nights near San Francisco, we are going to drive to Yosemite and do a VERY abbreviated visit to that park. We hope to see El Capitan and Half Dome, then we will begin
the very long drive home that evening.
The trip home will be 2,223 miles. That's 33 hours, according to Google Maps. We welcome all prayers.
