Frequently Asked Question:
What will you do for entertainment while you're on the road?
Glad you asked! TRUTH. 100 hours in the car is a lot of driving. Here's the plan we have to combat the question we are sure to get asked a million times: "Are we there yet?"
1. 2 ipads
2. 3 ipods
3. 2 iphones with 3G and wireless hotspot
4. 1 laptop for DVDs
5. 2 Nintendo DS's
6. Reading real, live books (2 of our kids can read and thankfully do not get carsick)
7. Audiobooks. On our last road trip to Sarasota (12+ hours), we got the audio book LAWN BOY by Gary Paulsen. It was hilarious and kept us entertained for about 2 hours. There is a sequel called LAWN BOY RETURNS that I need to reserve from the library before we leave!
8. Spotify Playlists....I have our first one made and you can see it here. I am also planning to make a "FUN/PUMP YOU UP/GET HIGH ON LIFE" playlist as well as a "mellow, chill out, relax a bit" playlist for times when we need everybody to stay calm so we can carry on.
9. Play the spotify game: We do this one a lot. We go around the car and everybody gets to pick 1 song they want to play. No one can veto your song--any song you choose. We usually go through a few rounds of this.
10. SLEEP! A big chunk of our time will be spent driving during the night. Our kids do well with this and should sleep through the night, so hopefully we can knock out a few large portions of drive time while they are snoozing.
11. What road trip is complete without the good ol' fashioned "License Plate Bingo?" On a 5,000 mile road trip, I'm pretty sure we can cross quite a few of the lower 48 off our list.
12. HELP! What would you do for entertainment if you were crazy enough to take a trip such as this???
